Addiction

Finding Support and Hope.

Struggling with addiction can feel overwhelming and isolating—but you do not have to face it alone. Many people experience difficulties with alcohol, drugs, gambling, or other behaviours, and reaching out for support is a brave and important step. Therapy offers a safe, non-judgemental space to understand what you are going through and to begin creating meaningful change. Recovery is possible, and you don’t have to do it all at once.

Understanding Addiction

Addiction often develops as a way of coping with emotional pain, stress, or trauma. Over time,
these patterns can feel difficult to control, even when they cause harm in other areas of life
such as relationships, work, or health. Addiction is not a sign of weakness—it is a response to
deeper struggles that deserve care, understanding, and healing.

How Therapy Can Help

In our work together, therapy can help you:

  •  Explore the underlying causes of addictive behaviours

  •  Develop healthier coping strategies and routines

  •  Strengthen your resilience and self-esteem

  •  Manage cravings, triggers, and stress

  •  Rebuild trust in relationships and improve communication

  •  Move towards lasting recovery in a way that feels manageable for you

Approaches to Treatment

My approach to addiction therapy is compassionate, tailored and collaborative. Depending on
your needs, I may integrate methods such as:

  • Person-centred therapy to provide a safe, supportive environment where you feel heard without judgement

  • Cognitive behavioural strategies (CBT) to identify and change unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour

  • Trauma-informed therapy or EMDR (when appropriate), to help process difficult past experiences that may be linked to addiction

  • Motivational work to help clarify your goals and support meaningful, lasting change

Support for Loved Ones

Addiction affects not only the individual but also partners, families, and friends. Therapy can
provide a space for loved ones to gain understanding, learn supportive strategies, and care for
their own well-being while supporting someone in recovery.

What to Expect

Sessions are confidential and take place either in person or online. You will be met with respect and understanding—this is a space without judgement, where we work at a pace that feels safe for you. There is no “one right way” to recover; together, we will find an approach that supports you best.
